Hook Surgery formed its PPG in 2003 and has met regularly since then. We were pleased to join with the Chessington Park Surgery formally in April 2008 as the Merritt Medical Centre PPG.

Many of the founder members of the Hook Surgery PPG have served regularly on the committee since its inception. We are particularly grateful to the Practice for their lead in the group over the last 6 years.

The group is open to all patients registered with either surgery and exists to contribute to the services provided at Merritt Medical Centre from a patient-centred point of view. These can range from social and educational events to fundraising for equipment for the two surgeries to self-help groups.

Members of the group request and help organise educational events on a particular health topic that they feel is of interest to patients. Previous topics for events have included maintaining a healthy heart, diabetes, child safety, alcohol and drugs, COPD, staying healthy and safe, (with Chessington Safer Neighbourhood Team), men's health, smoking cessation and asthma. Most of these events have been extremely successful and of assistance to a large number of patients.

The PPG has also provided feedback in relation to the annual patient survey carried out by the Surgery and helped to plan the responses and action plan arising from this feedback. The group provides a useful 'sounding board' when the Practice is considering any developments.

If you would like to become involved in the Hook PPG we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact the PPG Chairperson or Lorna Campbell, Practice Manager, for further information. Help may be required on an occasional basis as well as through being a committee member.

Hook Surgery has both ‘same day’, ‘book ahead’ and telephone appointments available for each working day.
The same day appointments are for patients with conditions that require them to be seen urgently. If a patient asks to be seen that day they are given an appointment with either a GP or our very experienced Nurse Practitioner who will always have access to a Doctor if needed.
If all such available appointments are already booked and the patient has a medical condition that cannot wait until the next day the receptionist will offer you an appointment in an emergency clinic at 12mid day. All patients needing an urgent appointment will be asked to attend at this time. You will be seen by the first available clinician – GP or Nurse Practitioner.
Telephone appointments can also be booked in advance and may be the most convenient or appropriate way to speak to your GP
If the matter is not urgent we offer a ‘book ahead’ appointment with ANY GP within 2 weeks.
If the patient wishes to see a SPECIFIC GP we aspire to offer an appointment within 4 weeks. This clearly has to take account of periods around the time when a GP is on annual leave.
We offer late appointments on a Monday and Thursday evening and a Saturday morning for patients who cannot attend during the normal working day.

The receptionists have a difficult job but do try to operate the system fairly and deal pleasantly with all patients.
